RTP designation may be obtained either by expanding with a permanent complement increase request and the addition/identification of at least one new rural participating site or at application for a new program.
Programs in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, or psychiatry must now complete a specialty-specific questionnaire when pursuing this designation. Programs in all other specialties do not need to complete a specialty-specific RTP questionnaire.

Neurological surgery program leaders can meet with the ACGME Review Committee Executive Director and Chair during the Society of Neurological Surgeons 2023 Annual Meeting Saturday, May 20, 2023, in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Toren Davis shares his story of reclaiming the title of “Disruptive Physician.” His work to dismantle systemic racism and fight for equity in his health care system led him to write to the local newspaper, send letters to the state attorney general, organize signature campaigns and a town hall with community non-profit organizations, and more. He will discuss where physicians can start with their own advocacy work and how to build it into a curriculum for learners.

The following Review Committee seeks its next public member for a six-year term beginning July 1, 2024. Public members share the perspective of the public, foster public accountability, enrich the work of the Review Committee through outside expertise, and create transparency. While nominees cannot be physicians, other health care professionals are permitted if they are not employed by an organization with ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship programs.

The Transitional Year Review Committee is looking for two new physician members. Candidates must be certified in anesthesiology or surgery through an American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association member board.
Nominations are due by July 1, 2023. The Review Committee will forward its selections to the ACGME Board of Directors for approval. Terms begin July 1, 2024 and end June 30, 2026.
