NEW! ACCREDITATION AND RECOGNITION SITE VISIT WEB UPDATES

ACGME Field Activities recently updated the Site Visit FAQ page on the ACGME website, which can be accessed from “What We Do” > “Accreditation” > “Site Visit.” Accreditation and recognition site visits for Sponsoring Institutions and programs are conducted using remote technology except in specific circumstances. Sponsoring Institutions and programs will be notified when a site visit will be conducted in-person.

UME-to-GME PandEMonium in COVID-19: Large-Scale Implementation of a Virtual ACGME Milestone-Based Curriculum for Senior Medical Students Matched Into Emergency Medicine

The COVID-19 pandemic displaced newly matched emergency medicine “pre-interns” from in-person educational experiences at the end of medical school, creating a need for novel remote teaching modalities. This study assessed the effectiveness of the social media implementation of an ACGME subcompetency-based curriculum, and demonstrates significant improvement in self-perceived preparedness for residency.

Mission-Based Filters in the Electronic Residency Application Service: Saving Time and Promoting Diversity

Program directors need a means to identify diverse, mission-aligned applicants in the current Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) who are well suited for their residency programs. Do You Have Power? Considering Type II Error in Medical Education

In contrast to large patient trials, sample sizes in medical education, and particularly in graduate medical education projects, may be small. If there really is a difference between groups, educators may not uncover it with a small sample size. This brief introduction is designed to help beginning researchers and readers wade into the murky waters of power calculations and sample sizes—and emerge unscathed.

The dates and location for the ACGME’s Annual Leadership Skills Training Program for Chief Residents are changing due to the shifting landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic and related local public health laws and regulations. About the Training Program
The Leadership Skills Training Program for Chief Residents is designed to provide a transitional experience into the leadership role of chief resident by enhancing each participant's self-awareness and understanding of their personal leadership styles, strengths, and weaknesses as leaders, developing knowledge and appreciation of group and interpersonal behavior, and learning additional skills critical to success and satisfaction as both a clinician and leader.

NEW! ACGME SEEKS RESIDENT MEMBERS

The following Review Committees seeks nomination for their next resident member positions. Nominees must be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship program at the time of the appointment and may not serve more than one year beyond completion of that residency or fellowship. After review and consideration of all nominees, the Review Committee will forward its selection to the ACGME Board of Directors for approval. Terms begin July 1, 2023 and end June 30, 2025.

Comments addressing full-time equivalency (FTE) support for program leadership and program coordinators should not be submitted; proposed revisions related to those subjects for all the pathology subspecialities are currently under review, and so are not reflected in the Program Requirements that are currently in effect and posted online.

FOUR-YEAR FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY OPTIONS UNDER CONSIDERATION

The Review Committee for Family Medicine of the ACGME and American Board of Family Medicine are collaborating to explore the outcomes of an additional fourth year of education and training in family medicine, through the ACGME’s Advancing Innovation in Residency Education (AIRE) initiative. The purposes of this collaboration are to support the development of advanced expertise and clinical mastery, spur innovation in clinical care and residency education, and improve the social accountability and community responsiveness of family medicine residency programs.

SUBMIT INPUT FOR REVISION OF INTERNAL MEDICINE SUBSPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS

The Review Committee for Internal Medicine is preparing to begin a major revision of the current Program Requirements for each of the subspecialties below and invites comments related to specific requirements or topics that should be addressed as the revised Requirements are developed.

Comments addressing full-time equivalency (FTE) support for program leadership, program coordinators, and core faulty members should not be submitted. The Review Committee received feedback on proposed revisions related to that subject for all the internal medicine subspecialities in the fall of 2021. Proposed revisions related to administrative support are under review, and so are not reflected in the Program Requirements that are currently in effect and posted online. For the multidisciplinary subspecialties of sleep medicine and clinical informatics, the Review Committee will proceed with a focused revision for FTE support soon.
